Hi, I'm Brett. This is my journey through chronic pain, recovery, and finding purpose in helping others.
My name is Brett, and I'm a person in long-term recovery who also lives with chronic pain. I understand what it's like to feel trapped between the need for pain management and the fear of dependency.
For years, I navigated the healthcare system as a patient—trying different medications, treatments, and specialists. I experienced firsthand the challenges of managing chronic pain while also protecting my recovery. The stigma, the judgment, the lack of resources that addressed both pain AND recovery—I lived it all.
What I found was a gap in support. Most chronic pain communities didn't understand recovery, and most recovery communities didn't understand chronic pain. I had to figure out how to manage both, mostly on my own.

My story isn't linear, and it's not always easy to share. But I believe transparency helps others feel less alone.
After my injury, I was prescribed opioids for pain management. What started as legitimate medical treatment led to dependency. The more I took, the less effective it became, and the harder it was to imagine life without them.
When I tried to address my recovery, doctors told me to "just deal with the pain." When I tried to address my pain, recovery advocates told me I was just trading one addiction for another. I didn't fit anywhere.
The breakthrough came when I learned about medication-assisted treatment (MAT). Buprenorphine allowed me to manage my recovery AND my pain without the rollercoaster of full opioid agonists.
Suddenly, I could think clearly again. I could engage with therapy, rebuild relationships, and start contributing to my community. I got my life back.
I realized that if I struggled to find help, others were struggling too. I became determined to build the resource I wished had existed when I was suffering.
ForChronicPain.com was born from the belief that no one should have to navigate chronic pain and recovery alone. You deserve support that sees and addresses the whole you.
I don't just advocate theoretically—I understand chronic pain and recovery from the inside out.
I stay current on research and best practices in pain management and addiction medicine.
I believe in meeting people where they are, without shame or stigma.
This work is about connection, notego. I believe in the power of peers helping peers.
Beyond my personal experience, I've dedicated myself to learning everything I can about pain management, addiction medicine, and peer support. I've worked with healthcare providers, attended conferences, and connected with researchers in the field.
But what matters most isn't credentials on paper—it's the understanding that comes from walking the path. I've been where you are. I've felt the hopelessness, the frustration, the isolation. And I found my way through.
Today, I pour everything I've learned into this community because I believe no one should have to figure this out alone.
I'm passionate about speaking to groups about chronic pain, recovery, and the intersection of both. Here are some of the venues where I've shared my story.
